Here comes Monday, hello again lunch box! I have two children, twin boys precisely who are in year 5. Every morning I have to prepare their lunch which is sometimes can be so mundane and boring. Their school has its canteen which open only three days; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Call me weird, but for some reasons I prefer my boys to have lunch made from home. Occasionally I’ll give them some coins to buy cheesy or ice-cream but I still pack their own lunch.
I am trying to make their lunch box as healthy as possible and make different variety. But this often fails miserably. When I make them (or buy ) organic stuff and/or lots of veggies & fruits I guarantee they won’t eat it. Yes, naughty boys! When I put two fruits they only eat one, when I don’t put too much food/snacks they will say they are still hungry because I don’t pack them enough. But when I pack their lunch box with healthy stuff for example; two kind of fruits, cut of carrots, organic muesli, healthy sandwich or wrap, they won’t eat most of it! Doooh!
Perhaps I am a mean mother. I try to reduce the package or bought stuff as possible as I could. I don’t against it, for some days I can’t avoid it. Often my mission is kind of hit and miss. Some days they will eat it (maybe because they are hungry and their friends don’t give them their food) some days it will come back home fully untouched except for the fruits. And again, me being a mean mother, when I pick them up I will always ask “did you eat your lunch?” If the answer is no or only half, I usually ask them to eat it while we are on the way home. So that they know there’s no way they can escape…but it works though. I think persistence is the key 🙂
When I am not lazy getting up bit early in the morning (usually when they have swimming as early as 5am!) I will make them sushi for their lunch and they love it! On Fridays they will always have fresh croissant with ham and cheese in it, it’s the Friday ritual. Otherwise if we are all getting up bit late and there are lots of dramas in the morning, then Vegemite sandwich will do for the lunch box!
So, what do you pack for your kids’ lunch box? Do you make their sandwich/wrap etc the night before or in the morning? I would love to hear some ideas or tips on this matter, please.
